Coating for my Remington 1100

I got this Remington from my father-in-law and I want to restore it as a way to honor him. What kind of coating would help bring back that factory-fresh look?

If it were my father-in-law’s rifle, I’d go for a clean re-blue to keep that classic appearance alive. There’s something meaningful about restoring an old finish instead of just opting for a modern one.

When fixing up a shotgun like a Remington 1100, a lot of people get it Cerakoted or re-blued. If you want it to look like it did when it was new, traditional bluing usually keeps the gun's original look.

For a factory look, hot bluing is your best option after proper polishing. Cerakote is tougher but won’t match the original finish as closely

Cerakote done right looks sharp and holds up through actual use. Given the story behind that gun take your time finding someone good. That's not a Craigslist job.

For restoring a gun with that much meaning, I’d find a local pro with Cerakote experience and let them handle it. Sending it off to a stranger just isn’t worth the risk.
