What are some of the popular products that, despite all the hype, still leave users facing avoidable problems?

For me, the biggest red flag is anything that claims to be “universal.” Whether it’s holsters, mag carriers or slings, if it’s marketed as fitting every gun ever made, it usually ends up fitting none of them properly. Another thing that gets me is budget optics with a tactical twist. They come with flashy marketing and cool names but the zero tends to wander if you so much as sneeze. I’ve had a few that were decent for casual shooting but there’s no way I’d trust them for anything serious.

I bought into a few of those super hyped-up items and they just ended up gathering dust. So these days, I tend to hold back and wait to see what actually proves itself over time.

Cheap optics and overly modular gear often get the most praise but they tend to fail in durability, consistency or practical usability under real-world conditions.

Bore snakes that stretch out after six months, laser bore sighters that drift and basically any bipod under forty dollars that wobbles the moment you actually need it to hold still.
