Won my division at a local match and got humbled the very next week

Winning felt great at the time but the next match had a tougher field and I ended up right in the middle of the pack. It was a good reminder that progress comes from pushing yourself against better competition, not just staying comfortable.
 
That’s the cycle...win one week, get humbled the next. Honestly, that’s where the real improvement kicks in.
 
 I won my very first match last spring, and for a minute there, I really thought I had everything figured out then the next match, I finished 15th. The big difference, it turned out was mostly about who was there that first match was just a bunch of local guys but the second one had regional shooters who were just passing through. That was a pretty good ego check, now I just focus on my own personal bests instead of worrying about where I place.
 
I once let a friend try out my custom 2011. He totally limp-wristed it then had the nerve to blame the gun. I'm now a lot more picky about who gets to even touch the expensive stuff.
