I’m planning a trip to visit family, and I want to bring along a firearm. The only problem is I’ve got to go through New York State, which complicates things a bit. If I try to avoid NY, it adds way too much time to my trip. Just wondering if anyone’s had a similar situation and how you worked it out. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Not looking for a perfect plan, just some ideas that might help.

FOPA covers you if you lock the unloaded gun in the trunk ammo separate. I drove through NY last year to CT kept everything out of reach. Added time but worth avoiding jail.

Even with FOPA in place, there are still some places in NY that have been known to arrest first and sort it out later. It's really frustrating because the law is supposed to have your back but honestly, the way it's enforced can be all over the place.

The FOPA would cover you in any event. Best suggestion is to follow the FOPA rules, set your cruise control to the speed limit, & don't stop unless you need gas, food, or a bathroom and AVOID THE 5 BOROS OF NEW YORK CITY! Essentially, don't give anyone a reason to look in your trunk. Hundreds of thousands of vehicles pass through New York State daily without a second glance from the police, just don't give them a reason to give you a second glance
