Muzzle loading pistol for hunting?

I am an avid squirrel hunter. I hunt exclusively with muzzle loaders in .32 or .36 caliber, flint and percussion. I was instrumental in getting the CT regulations amended to allow .32 and .36 caliber muzzle loaders with patched round ball on state lands. Most of my hunting occurs on State Land, so I was wondering if I should pursue another regulation change to allow .32 and .36 caliber single shot muzzle loading pistols with patched round ball on State Land for hunting small game. What say you fellow squirrel hunters?

I think you’re on the right path. If anyone has the credentials to advocate for this, it’s the person who successfully got the .32 and .36 rifles approved. That alone shows you really understand both the tradition and the practicalities of how these calibers perform in the wild. From my viewpoint, allowing folks to use single-shot muzzleloading pistols in those same calibers doesn’t seem unreasonable at all. They’re not overpowered, they’re safe and they won’t harm the landscape. In fact they require more patience and skill than what most small-game hunters are using these days. If you’re feeling motivated to pursue another regulation change, I’d say go for it. The worst that could happen is they take their time.
