Hope everyone's having a good time here!

I'd love to know, what’s one hunting mistake you’ll always remember? Maybe it was that moment your scope went busted, or you realized the boots you wore were totally wrong, or perhaps you spooked the game way too soon. I’d love to hear your stories. Let’s swap some lessons and have a good laugh along the way!

This wild thing happened during my second turkey season. I thought I had it all figured out. Got to my spot way before dawn, set up my decoys just right, and had my calls ready to go. Then, I heard this big tom gobbling not too far away, and I could feel he was about to make his entrance. I'm sitting there against a tree, barely able to breathe, when he finally steps into the clearing, about 40 yards out.

I slowly lift my shotgun, line him up in my sights, and then I realized I never chambered a round. In that totally silent moment, the sound of me racking that pump action felt like an air horn going off. That turkey went from strutting to vanished in the blink of an eye.

I sat there for like another hour, kicking myself and replaying that moment over and over in my head. Now it’s become my ritual that as soon as I sit down, the very first thing I do is chamber a round. Every single time, without fail.
